Im always up for playin games though Vancouver would be hard to get people to travel to especially with our schedual this year havin to go to the east side so many times. Last year we played a too many non conference games which led to many of our injuries... However the idea of the game is being bounced around as I heard about it at practice the other day. no matter what hope all goes well gettin your team on its feet.

our march 22nd game backed out so that date is now open that would give you a week before your first game!

OFLER Brad will probably be in touch either way in the next few days, we are just trying to avoid the overscheduling we had last year.

The over scheduling Randy mentions is something that makes me nervous. Even if our team had continued to advance in the playoffs, I'm not sure how much longer I would have been able to suit up. I am not strongly opposed to adding a game at the beginning of our season, as long as we have enough notice to prepare (unlike last year) but if I have a vote, I'd vote to keep the bye weeks that we currently have. Just my two cents.

We need to keep our bye week but the march 22nd sounds like a good idea to me. A preseason game is a great way to do some fine tuning.

I know and agree that this is Brads call. I was just voicing my opinion.

Had to do some legwork to make sure we could pull off a game before a lot of conjecture. We can host the Vipers at Oak Harbor High School March 22nd, Gametime TBA, following a conversation with their coach regarding travel time etc, Give me a call OFLER 425 299 6650 Many thanks to Coach Craig Jackson for the legwork following up on the details.
********************************************
I understand the scheduling concerns from last year, here are my thoughts
A. The NWFL has played 12-17 games per team per year with nowhere near the injuries I played 17 games last year with 2 sets of broken ribs, not counting the weeklong coma, so its not as if i dont get it, trust me.
B. I was not in charge of scheduling last year, didnt make or take any phone calls to set up a single game. So me setting up a game this year need not bring back bad memories because they are not related.
C. when we got the original schedule that had 6 games(clearly not enough) and 5 BYE WEEKS ( clearly too many) ,including 4 weeks off after week 4, everyone started to arrange one game, and they did without one person specifically making the decision, they all got added in, and we did actually have 2 bye weeks last year. which is more than most leagues schedule period.
D. While I will never schedule a game on THAT short of notice (Mustangs wk 1) ever again (we only had 3 injuries during the month of non league games, we had 4 injuries in the first game, so TOO many games doesnt really hold water when its the first game that everyone got hurt. And the Mustangs are on our schedule, so its not like we scheduled someone we had no business playing.
E. While I have no problem taking responsiblity for the Mustangs game, and it was my call, team communication is one of the things that will avoid being shortstaffed in the future. When I got the call to play the Mustangs Friday, accepted the game, then called around to let everyone know SATURDAY WOULD BE A GAME NOT A PRACTICE, 5 people we needed had other plans. Mike Daly had the flu, nothing he could do, but I got exactly ZERO phone calls from the other 4. Thats the problem. My only other choice was to call the Mustangs back and tell them...
"Hey Im really sorry, We cant play you, we are a week away from opening day, and we dont have out $#!t together" .
Is that really what you want your head coach to have to say to a LEAGUE OPPONENT???.
No general shouldnt have to take a poll with his soldiers to see if they are in the mood to take a hill. I assumed we had a full team, or at least everyone were supposed to have, because there were no calls to the contrary. Players are supposed to WANT to play, otherwise what are we here for, and this was our FIRST game.
F. What really hurt us was losing 5 starters on offense the week of the 2nd avalanche game, (that and the BBQ) which happened 2 weeks before all the non league games started. That was the turning point from our scoring and defense, ( we shut teams out the first 3 quarters of two previous games and shut out Wenatchee for the first 20 minutes (which happens so infrequently THEY wrote that in THEIR newspaper) Losing a RB, WR, WR, TE, C,CB. We never recovered after that
Not to mention we had 2 practices from that point on, with the same 6-8 people at each. So we're back where we started WE need gear, we need exercise, we need numbers,we need practice, Anything less results in too much wear and tear which leads to injuries
